New: Leash Agility Skill Certificate. Some owners have leash-trained their cats and prefer doing the Basic course that way. A Clean Run completed while on leash earns a Leash Agility Skill Certificate.
The Leash Rules include a special disqualification for this certificate --towing or lifting the cat with the leash is not permitted.

New: Basic course measures 10' x 20' and uses five obstacles.
The larger Advanced course presently still measures 32' x 32' and uses 11 obstacles. We are experimenting with a smaller 20' x 20' Advanced course, and also developing a truly-spectacular Expert course.
Some of the new Expert obstacles might be tested at the Westchester FC club in White Plains, New York show in November.
With the smaller sized Basic course available now, more clubs will be able to have ICAT at their show. It uses only 200 sq.ft., compared to 1,024 sq.ft. for the current Advanced course, making the Basic course only 20% the size of the Advanced course.
The large Advanced course will still be used for Advanced titles. It can be partitioned off into a small Beginner course, with the same obstacles being used on the Basic as Advanced courses, just fewer of them for the Basic course.
The Westchester club is planning on trying out this dual-course idea at their November show. The ICAT Schedule listings now have a notation about which course size will be present, Beginner, Advanced, or both (and, someday, Expert).
New: Crazy 8 Agility Skill Certificate - can be earned in one day!
The Crazy 8 Rules require any eight obstacles need to be completed, as long as one each of: Jump, Tunnel, and Footwork (ladder or weave poles) are done.
A new Leash Agility Skill Certificate is under development.
There was another Agility Skill Certificate available, called Tunnel Runner, without any jumps and suitable for old or heavy cats. The Tunnel Runner Rules are under revision, and presently this game is not available.
New: Kittens may earn Clean Runs which accrue toward their Agility Cat title
They need to be registered for the Clean Runs to be recorded in the scoring database. If not already registered, the owner can register and pay the AO on the day the Clean Run is earned.
New: Un-timed Clean Runs count toward title and skill certificates
Think of all the Clean Runs cats and kittens have done when they weren't on the stopwatch! As long as the AO witnesses a Clean Run, it goes into the books if the cat is registered (or registers that day) and counts toward the number needed for their Agility Cat titles.
New: For Clean Runs to count, the cat or kitten must be registered with ICAT
There are many cats on the Best Times with Clean Runs page who have not yet registered, and these cats and kittens will be grandfathered over so they don't lose what the clean runs they have done. For future clean runs to count, they will need to register.
With this page handy, the AO knows what information needs to be gathered to register a cat at the show. On-line registration is still available, of course.
New: Progression of Agility Cat titles, starting on the Beginner Course
Cats need to earn their titles like going up steps. The two cats who have earned Advanced titles already (Zoom and Impact) have gone back and completed the requirements at the Beginner levels, just for completion's sake. Clean Runs done on the Advanced course will be held onto in ICAT records until the catch up title-wise.
New: Chart of Agility Titles
This chart isn't completed yet, we're still preparing it and the progression chart above, based on Laurie Ann Bone's excellent contributions and her years of horse competitions.
New: 3-Month Old Kittens May Participate
Since cat shows permit 3-month old kittens in the show hall, several people have asked if they could try them on the Beginner course. A few tried the course in Syracuse, and had a good time romping around, and two did very well.

June 18, 2005 -- the world's first Advanced Agility Cat (AAC) championship title has been earned by Zoom, a Bengal owned, trained and handled by Laurie Ann Bone!June 27, 2005 -- the world's second Advanced Agility Cat (AAC) championship title has been earned by Impact, a Bengal owned, trained and handled by Laurie Ann Bone! |
All those weekend cat agility training sessions in Port Moody, British Columbia have paid off. Zoom can now consistently do clean runs on the Basic agility course in around 12 seconds. He is also the World Record Holder, having done the course in a phenomenal 9.97 seconds -- and it was captured on video by someone there, from start to finish. Zoom and Impact are starting toward their next level Advanced titles.
