ICAT agility equipment has three components
- Obstacles -- Obstacles must be the same in the "important dimensions" at each ICAT event, like distance or height, so there is consistency in performance and scoring. The Specifications page has the "important dimensions" indicated for each obstacle. Materials may vary, like wood, pvc, aluminum, plastic, or whatever is available.
- Flooring -- If you have a carpeted show hall, floor mats are unnecessary. However, no official or authorized ICAT event may be held on bare concrete or wooden floors, or else people and cats would be slipping and sliding everywhere.
- Fencing -- Any fencing will do as long as it is about 5 feet high.
It is very highly recommended (soon to be required) there be a solid barrier (curtains, continuous advertising signs, tablecloths, or just about anything) about 3 feet high set, set back about 2 feet from the fencing, so the cats cannot see people's feet, and so spectators stay back away from the fencing.
We have found the the cats are much more comfortable this way, their learning goes faster, the number of clean runs increases, and performance times are better. The difference is dramatic between performances in a draped and non-draped agility arena.
